  • Life without God: trust in either wealth or themselves; search for status; enjoy the praise of others; use wealth to buy off their death
  • Life with God: no need to search for status; your ransom has been paid and you have been redeemed; future is secure
  • Life with God does not end with death, but continues on into eternity
  1. Luke 20:27-21:4. The dead will rise
  • If you really believe in the resurrection it changes your attitude to everything in life, including your possessions

  • Hope in the resurrection
  • God is your refuge and underneath are the everlasting arms

o   Word Power

  1. Proverbs 10:11-20. Speak words of love
  • Words have the power to either destroy or heal relationships
  • Control of the tongue is vital; Abe Lincoln said, “it is better to be silent and thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt.”
  • Words of love are a fountain of life; they cover all wrongs
  1. Luke 21:5-38. Speak words given by Jesus
  • Jesus said, “heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”
  • Jesus warns about deceptive words – many will come in his name claiming I am he.
  • Love everyone and when you are persecuted, Jesus promises to put powerful words in your mouth
  1. Joshua 1:1-2:24. Speak the words of God
  • Pay attention to the words of God; obey them, speak them, meditate on them day and night and put them into practice
  • Promise of God’s peace through Jesus
  • Promise of God’s personal presence – brings strength and courage; we are not to fear

o   The Gracious Hand of God

  • Thank God
  • Call on God – in the day of trouble
  • Honor God
  1. Luke 22:1-38. Your prayers make a difference
  • Always temptation to compare ourselves to others; leads to pride, jealousy, envy and insecurity
  • Bible teaches both predestination and free will

o   Judas – betrayal of Jesus

o   Simon Peter – deny him 3 times; Jesus did pray for him

o   Jesus – predestined fulfillment of Jesus’ death; he still freely chose to do so

  • Prepare yourselves: we have a part to play as well

  1. Luke 22:39-62. Two paths to live: God’s will or your own
  • Do you ever find yourself in a situation where you know the right thing to do, but you also know the right thing is very difficult and costly? Are you tempted to take the easy way out?
  • There will be times when God asks you to choose his will over what you want to do
  • Our mess of yesterday can become our mess-age today; our test can become our testimony
  1. Joshua 5:13-7:26. Two grounds to stand on: holy or hidden
