Daily Devotion:

  • Bible in 1 Year Series
    • Your Most Exciting Find
      1. Proverbs 8:32-36. Seek God’s wisdom daily
        • there is wisdom in Proverbs
        • seeking God requires discipline and patience
      2. Luke 11:5-32. Seek God’s Spirit persistently
        • keep on asking…keep on seeking…keep on knocking…For everyone who asks and keeps on asking receives; and he who seeks and keeps on seeking finds; and to him who knocks and keeps on knocking, the door shall be opened (v9-10)
        • Doubt – people have doubts about asking and receiving; keep on asking
        • Fear – about what you will receive; God will not let you down
        • Inadequacy – God gives to those who ask him; not just to those who are deemed worthy
        • Seek God, his kingdom, his righteousness and his Holy Spirit
      3. Deuteronomy 4:15-5:33. Seek God’s presence wholeheartedly
        • Relationship with God is most important aspect of life
        • It is out of this relationship your love of others should flow; another important aspect of life
        • Priorities – relationship with God first; relationship with family next; relationship with others; finally your thought-life
        • Taken from the 10 Commandments
  • WiRE For Men: Fueling Up
    • What’s This Margin Thing?
      • Men are drawn toward extremes
      • Prevailing culture tells to ‘work longer hours’; ‘sleep less’; ‘spend more money and stretch to a better lifestyle’
      • These messages aren’t from God and he didn’t design to live this way (extreme calendars, finances, approaches to work and health, pastimes and interests)
      • God designed us to have margin
      • Margin – is the amount of time, money, whatever, we hold back – in order to maintain productivity, stability, integrity.
      • Calendar margin – reserving time for rest, for solitude, for other people
      • Financial margin – living within our means, changing our lifestyle if necessary
      • Work margin – focusing on what we are made to do; excluding the things we aren’t
      • We care for others by caring of ourselves – true masculinity; not some put-on, fear-driven, self-centered counterfeit
      • What to do? What is your culture, workplace, city calling you to do? Hurry? Stress? Worry?
      • God’s calling you to a life of: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control
      • Go out and make the decisions that’ll conform your life to God’s design, not the world’s; Commit today to measurable change
