Daily Devotion:

  • Bible in 1 Year Series
    • How To Love
      1. Psalm 40:9-17. Love and Truth
        • Truth becomes hard if it is not softened by love; love becomes soft if it is not strengthened by truth
      2. Luke 9:28-56. Love and Mercy
        • Welcome people regardless of what they can do for you
        • Accept people beyond your own immediate circles, denomination and traditions. If they are not against Jesus they are for him.
        • You may not always be welcomed either; do not seek revenge for such
      3. Numbers 35:1-36:13. Love and Justice
        • The state is concerned with the protection of others. To stand by and allow injustice would actually be unloving and unchristian.
        • In personal morality, we are told not to take revenge; this attitude of love and forgiveness is not to deny justice, but rather it is an expression of trust in God’s ultimate justice.
  • The Catalyst Leader
    • Be Who You Are (Authenticity)
      • Practice Self-Awareness – understand who you really are; too many people refuse to accept and even name their weaknesses, struggles and failures; as a result, they accept a version of themselves people will like better.
      • Question yourself – Self diagnosis can lead to self discovery
      • Move from self-promotion to storytelling – if you want to be a change-maker, move from shaping your personal brand to sharing your personal story (authentic)
      • Resist the urge to create a digital alter ego – social media is not just about being connected; be transparent, intimate and honest
      • Learn to laugh at yourself – don’t take yourself so seriously; grow comfortable to laugh at your blunders and mess-ups…in which others will too; this will help you bond with others
      • Build a support network – be wary of those tell you what you want to hear; keep honest people around who keep you grounded
      • Be interested over interesting – be more concerned with listening instead of talking; focus on others

What I Am Reading

  • Daily Stoic
    • Do What Little As You Can, And Do It As Best As You Can
      • Excerpt from the novel ‘The Moviegoer’ by Walker Percy (1961)
        • A man must live by his lights and do what little he can and do it as best he can. In this world goodness is destined to be defeated. But a man must go down fighting. That is victory. To do anything less is to be less than a man.”
  • Meet Your Strawman and Whatever You Want To Know
    • I am reading this book after talking with a friend who brought up the topic and much more in deep conversations. It errs on the side of conspiracy theory, however, if you put yourself on the other side of the pasture it might be a conspiracy theory looking the other direction. I will right a review with central themes and ideas once I have finished. Stay tuned!
